95 Deep Questions to Ask (and Actually Connect)

Updated May 2026 · 98 questions

Deep questions are open-ended prompts that go past small talk and ask about values, fears, love, and meaning. Use them when you want to actually know someone: a long drive, a quiet night in, a new relationship, or an old friendship that deserves a real conversation. They reward honesty over quick answers.

How to play

  1. 1Pick a question from any section below and both of you answer it honestly about yourself.
  2. 2Before you reveal, each person guesses what the other one said.
  3. 3Score a point for every guess that matches. Talk through the misses, that is where the good stuff lives.
  4. 4In Who Knows You Best, you both answer on your own phones, guess each other, and the app tallies your match percentage for you.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a question deep?

A deep question cannot be answered with one word and invites you to share how you actually think or feel. It usually touches values, fears, love, or meaning, and the answer tells you something real about the person rather than just a fact about them.

Are these good for couples and close friends?

Yes. The Love and relationships section is built for couples, while Getting started, Values and beliefs, and Past and future work great for friends. Mix sections freely. The best conversations happen when you let one answer lead naturally into the next question.

How do you answer a question that feels too hard?

Start with the honest first thing that comes to mind, even if it is messy. You can say I am not sure yet and think out loud. There are no wrong answers here, and you can always pass on one and come back to it later.

When is the best time to use deep questions?

Pick a moment with no rush and few distractions: a long drive, a slow dinner, a late night, or a quiet walk. They also work well early in a relationship or when you want to reconnect with someone you already know well.

Can you play these in the app?

Yes. In Who Knows You Best you each answer about yourself, then guess what the other person said, and the app scores your match percentage. It turns deep questions into a fun two player game you can play in person or online with a shared link.
